Rep. Blumenauer Introduces H.R.3638 to Double Federal Gas Tax and Establish Road Usage Fees

File photo (subject to license)

Rep. Earl Blumenauer of Oregon has introduced a bill to establish a road usage fee pilot program to study mileage-based fee systems. The government would love to tax people for every mile that they drive. It would be an endless source of revenue for all types of "pork" projects. Govtrack says there is 1% of the bill making it out of committee, so I hope Congress kills this bill.  The full text of the bill should be available in a few days.

Text: H.R.3638 — 113th Congress (2013-2014) As of 12/05/2013 text has not been received for H.R.3638 - To establish a Road Usage Fee Pilot Program to study mileage-based fee systems, and for other purposes. Bills are generally sent to the Library of Congress from GPO, the Government Printing Office, a day or two after they are introduced on the floor of the House or Senate. Delays can occur when there are a large number of bills to prepare or when a very large bill has to be printed.

A martial law training drill in Los Angeles? Shut the front door!

LAPD and other law enforcement agencies conduct training and military-style exercises on many occasions, so perhaps this is harmless. However, some say this exercise is a martial law training (myself included).  If this upcoming exercise is indeed one of those exercises, I wanted to post this information in case any shenanigans occur!

On Thursday June 06, 2013 - The Los Angeles Police Department will be acting out a scenario on Figueroa between 5th and 4th Street. This demonstration is scheduled to start at 10:00 AM. This demonstration involves:
  • “Blank” gunfire,
  • Low flying police helicopters,
  • LAPD officers repelling from the helicopters
  • Emergency Vehicles with Lights and Sirens.
Along with this event, there will be some temporary street closures. The closures are as follows:
  • Figueroa between 4th and 5th - Closing 10 minutes prior to event start and will remain closed for the duration
  • N/B Figueroa at 7th
  • E/B 4th at Beaudry
  • 110 Freeway South Bound Off ramp – Rolling Closure
  • W/B 5th Street at Flower
All of the roads with the exception of Figueroa will be opened as soon as possible. Traffic coming N/B on Figueroa will be warned that Figueroa is closed so that they can turn off without having to get on the freeway at 5th Street.

If you should have any questions, please contact Senior Lead Officer Sean Lewis at (213) 793-0743 or e-mail at 34717@lapd.lacity.org

FLASHBACK: Dr. Zbigniew Brzezinski Joins Jamestown Foundation Board of Directors (2003)

I have not posted a Flashback article in a few months and this one caught my attention. Mainly because this article involves Zbigniew Brzezinski joining some foundation.  I have written my fair share of Brzezinski articles on this blog about his involvements in the grand chessboard and how he's like a real-life Sith Lord! Why not add to the mixx?

Dr. Brzezinski is Professor of American Foreign Policy at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, and serves as a Counselor and Trustee at the Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS). He earned his Doctorate from Harvard University in 1953, and directed the Trilateral Commission in New York from 1973 to 1976. In 1981 Brzezinski received the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his role in normalizing U.S.-China relations.

Video of West Fertilizer Explosion Near Waco, Texas?

At about the 0:29 mark, there is a huge explosion that is supposedly of the West Fertilizer plant in West, Texas. It also appears that something flies into the plant from the left. I have no idea what it was, but take your pick of a missile, drone, meteor, et cetera!

Another version of the plant explosion - http://youtu.be/ja9LF9k2Rjw

Here's a slow motion version of the explosion - http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=350vred&s=6

I hope this guy's daughter is okay.

Wisconsin HazMat Quarantine Lifted for 65 People After Handling Envelope

Do we propose to ban envelopes now? All joking aside, hopefully, these people will be okay.

A six-hour quarantine in the City of Beloit has been lifted after employees at a medical clinic opened an envelope containing an unknown powder.

Reports say that the man who delivered the envelopes containing the suspicious powder may be a patient of the medical clinic.

Police said investigators believe the person who dropped off an envelope containing suspicious powder at the Beloit Area Community Health Center was a patient.

Realtime Tracking of In-Stock U.S. Gun Ammunition Suppliers (Reference)

I have not written a blog article in several fortnights. Life took priority during that time, but I am back

It is time to jump back in the mix with some of the latest current events, namely the 2nd Amendment and gun control. One result of the gun control discussion here in the United States is an increase in gun sales and a record number of people buying guns.  Many guns are not currently available in any condition and now many forms of ammunition are also in short supply.  This GunBot site supposedly provides information about suppliers with available stock.

I have no affiliation with this Gunbot website nor can I speak on the site's accuracy, so if you use it, use it at your own risk.
