Hype, hype and more hype. The State of Washington seems to be hyping up the process more than the other States as it ramps up the largest vaccination program in its history. It certainly does not help minimize the hype when the State lists emergency detention orders and thousands of incoming Washington State Cougar students get hit with the H1N1 virus during the 1st week of classes. Washington even has the National Guard on standby in case it needs to distribute the experimental vaccine.

Racing to get as many people vaccinated as possible before the outbreak peaks, the state’s 35 local health jurisdictions are going to unprecedented lengths to recruit schools, private doctors, pharmacists, obstetricians, gynecologists and volunteers to help administer nearly 1 million inoculations.
Emergency plans are in place to call up the National Guard to help distribute the vaccine if necessary.
“We can no more stop the flu than we can stop an earthquake,” Gov. Chris Gregoire told attendees at a pandemic influenza summit Sept. 8. “By knowing we can’t stop if, we need to be prepared.”
So far, the state Health Department says, 159 people in Washington have been hospitalized with the H1N1 virus. Fourteen have died, including four in Pierce County.
