Record Numbers Go Hungry in the United States of America!

Control the food and you can control population. I believe it was Henry Kissinger who said that quote or something similar to it. Despite the illusion that the United States is still a powerful, wealthy country, record numbers of people went hungry here last year and it will probably be worse this year.

There is no more crop surplus. The water has been turned off in the Central California Valley. Other farmers around the country were not able to secure the necessary loans earlier this year to even plant crops. Now, a recent report says over 16% of this country's population was unable to afford food at some point last year!

[T]he agriculture department survey, which says 50 million people in the US – one in six of the population – were unable to afford to buy sufficient food to stay healthy at some point last year, in large part because of escalating unemployment or poorly paid jobs. That is a rise of more than one-third on the year before and the highest number since the survey began in 1995.

The agriculture secretary, Tom Vilsack, said: "These numbers are a wake-up call … for us to get very serious about food security and hunger, about nutrition and food safety in this country.

What will we do as more and more people go hungry?
